                                          Avi Shlaim
Israel and Palestine: Reappraisals, Revisions, Refutations
                                          Oct 20, 201o. 7pm

Author Avi Shlaim discusses the Israel-Palestine conflict , one of the most bitter, violent, prolonged and intractable conflicts of our time. Illuminating the fractured history and future prospects for peace in the region, Avi provides the essential history behind the Gaza flotilla attack and the conviction of Saber Kushour for ‘rape by deception.’ Shlaim’s sensitive and acute rendering of history takes as a central concern the understanding of the existential conflict between two distinct national narratives that runs alongside the political conflict between Israelis and Palestinians.

Praise for Israel and Palestine (Publication: October 2010)
“Avi Shlaim… writes about the Middle East with exceptional wisdom and insight…” - Max Hastings,
                                          Sunday Times

“Avi Shlaim’s essays on Israel and Palestine ought to be on Barack Obama’s reading list” - Ian Black, Guardian

“Wonderful… not often today do we find historians who are this honest and this bleak and this able to express truth so simply.” - Robert Fisk, Independent

“Avi Shlaim is the sort of historian every country needs. An exposer of national myths, the supreme
scholar of Arab-Israeli negotiations.” - Philip Mansel, Spectator

“Valuable… provides even the hardened student with some new perspectives.” - Economist

“One of the best and most illuminating accounts of Arab-Israeli relations in years.” - Foreign Affairs
