To launch the photographic exhibition Struggling To Share The Promised Land by David Lurie and creative exhibition Living In Conflict by Martyn Stanton Harris, Woolfson & Tay are honoured to host a launch event with artist Martyn Stanton Harris, Israeli director, writer and poet Shira Geffen, Palestinian journalist and writer Rabai al-Madhoun, and performer and comedian Ivor Dembina. There will be a panel discussion moderated by writer and editor Shaun Levin.

This event includes a screening of What About Me? Shira's bitingly funny short film about a man and a donkey crossing a checkpoint in the Israeli desert. This film was made under the aegis of the UN and European Commission to promote awareness about human rights for a project called ART for the World.

This event and exhibition will explore the tensions underlying the Israel-Palestine conflict and its impact on everyday lives in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and Gaza. To book your place, please scroll to bottom of this page.

Rabai al-Madhoun was born in Al-Majdal Askalan in Palestine. He was previously senior producer with WTN (World Wide TV News Corporation) and APTN (Associated Press TV News). He is a journalist at Asharq Al Awsat newspaper, an international Arabic newspaper based in London. He is the author of The Idiot of Khan Younis, The Palestinian Uprising, The Taste of Separation and more recently The Lady from Tel Aviv, which was shortlisted for the 'Arabic Booker' - the International Prize for Arabic Fiction 2010.

Ivor Dembina is a London-based Jewish comedian who spent time on the West Bank as a peace worker after the outbreak of the second Intifada.  Out of his visits arose his solo show 'This is Not a Subject for Comedy' which he has performed for Palestinian and Israeli audiences and for MPs and peers in the Houses of Parliament. For this event he will deliver a 20-minute extract from the piece which uses Jewish humour to describe how he was brought up in the UK to love Israel but how his feelings about the Jewish state were challenged by the time he spent at the heart of the conflict.

Shaun Levin grew up in South Africa and Israel. He is the author of A Year of Two Summers, Seven Sweet Things, and most recently: Snapshots of The Boy. He is the founding ediotor of the literary journal, Chroma, and teaches creative writing on the Conmplete Creative Writing Course.
